Square Footage Calculator
Calculate the area of a room or space in square feet or square meters.
How to Use
- Choose the shape that best matches your space from the options above the form.
- Enter its dimensions and pick whether they're in feet or meters.
- Optionally change Quantity if you have more than one identical space (it defaults to 1).
- The result updates instantly, showing the area in your chosen unit with the other system's equivalent alongside it.
Formula
- Rectangle
- area = length × width
- Circle
- area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²
- Triangle
- area = 0.5 × base × height
Worked Example
A 10 ft by 15 ft room.
- area = 10 ft × 15 ft = 150 ft².
- 150 ft² converted to square meters ≈ 13.9355 m².
Result: 150 ft² (13.9355 m²)
About This Tool
What this tool does
This calculator finds the area of a rectangular, circular, or triangular room or space, and shows the result in both square feet and square meters.
When to use it
Use it to estimate flooring, carpet, tile, or paint coverage, to check a listed room size, or to compare space sizes given in different unit systems.
What the result means
The primary result is the total area — for `quantity` identical spaces, not just one — in whichever unit system you entered dimensions in, with the other system's equivalent shown alongside for reference.
Assumptions & limitations
This covers the three shapes that cover most real rooms and spaces (rectangle, circle, triangle) rather than every possible polygon, to keep the tool simple. All dimensions must be entered in a single, consistent unit (don't mix feet and meters within one calculation) and must be greater than zero.
